I got my first computer (a Gateway) in the "dot-com era" after persuading my first-generation Asian American mom to wait with me outside Walmart on Black Friday. Despite spending 9 years as a stay-at-home mom, and nearly 5 years in the military after high school -- I have never forgotten the magic I felt back then as a young pre-teen braving the new technological frontier.
Now that my children are growing up and embarking on their own learning journey, I've chosen to finally dig up my long-buried dream of software engineering. Despite the unconventional shift from military to family life to tech, I’ve found that my experiences learning English as a second language, studying Arabic in the military, and Mandarin in college have laid a foundation of language learning which has supported the seamless transition to my newfound passion for coding.
